Having stayed at the 4* Camping le Bois Masson campsite in St Jean de Monts some time ago I (Editor) can vouch for the fact that as well as being a large and lively campsite it is clean and well maintained – a rather smashing family holiday destination in fact.

There are no hills to climb to get to Camping le Bois Masson as it is located on the bottom road into St Jean de Monts, and just a brisk walk on the flat into this wonderful town. Beaches are numerous here, clean, sandy and safe but to get to the nearest there is an uphill walk or a 2 minute drive by car which will lead you to large parking area on the main promenade to your right.

Le Bois Masson is the sister campsite to le Bois Dormant just down the road. The main beach(es) have watersports outlets which hire sand yachts, catamarans, canoes and windsurfers. Back on the campsite though you will find that le Bois Masson has its own health and wellbeing spa, indoor and outdoor pools, waterslides, sports pitches, restaurant, bar and cabaret bar.

There is plenty of entertainment at le Bois Masson so you will not be bored for a moment, and the entertainment team organise all sorts of sports competitions and well planned games. Your children will have a great time at the range of kids’ clubs on-site for all ages. Vanilla Café is the place to be for concerts, performances and shows!

If you are a cyclist then you will find that the local area is cycle friendly as it has almost 500 miles of picturesque cycle paths along the coast. But in the town of St Jean you will be able to hire canopy covered pedal cars to explore the town, or take the Velo Rail along 10km of disused rail track through beautiful countryside.

Accommodation at Camping le Bois Masson

A “Must See” is the the plush Ile de Noirmutier, linked to the coast by a three-mile causeway that is only passable at low tide. The island has excellent individual shops, vibrant restaurants, wonderful ancient houses and a 12th century abbey. A superb day-trip destination is Puy du Fou, a medieval theme park where you can relive 2,000 years of French history through smoky, live spectaculars. It is made up of ‘villages’ from different eras, there is a 600 seat Roman stadium and there are shows of gladiators, vikings, falconry, jousting, magic and music.
