Camping and mobile home holidays in Aquitaine, the massive region of southwest France made up of 5 departments of which the Dordogne and Lot-et-Garonne are landlocked and Gironde, Landes and the Pyrenees-Atlantiques have a significant coastline among which lies a host of camping holiday resorts.
The coastline of Aquitaine starts at the southern tip of the mouth of the river Gironde, that mighty river which splits further south and flows through Bordeaux, the other part being the river Dordogne, and I leave you to guess where that one comes from.
Camping holidays in Aquitaine just have to be mentioned in the same breath as watersports, the main one of which is surfing as without question the coast of Aquitaine has some of the best surfing in Europe and the further south you go the better it can be as 5 metre surf near the French/Spanish border is common.
So Aquitaine is the place to combine a camping holiday with a surfing break where you can expect 5 metre surf on a regular basis.
Where to go and what to see in Aquitaine? Well obviously Bordeaux needs visiting though we recommend catching a Park & Ride outside the city rather than driving in and scrabbling for a parking slot. R&R is cheap here and it runs about every 20 minutes.
As aforesaid, this is a huge area so advising someone where to visit is rather useless unless you know where they are staying, but if you have fuel in your tank then the Dordogne, which is a department of Aquitaine, is always worth visiting, and you will be amazed at the scenery, the facilities for walking and cycling holidays, horse trekking etc.
Camping and mobile home holidays here in the Dordogne, Lot et Garonne, Landes and the Pyrenees-Atlantiques are described on other pages.
